Get Rid Of Those Weeds!
Burlington has placed a ban on certain chemical weed killers, and it shows when you drive the streets. Some places are so bad, it has left residents pleading with the city to Get Rid Of Those Weeds! Here are a few natural alternatives you can use on your lawn to keep your lawn green and healthy.
1) Boiling Water
Once you finish boiling your eggs in the morning, take your pot outside and pour it directly on the weeds. This will kill the plant right to the root. You may need to repeat over several days, but this method is safe and very environmentally friendly.
Straight white vinegar is very acidic and weeds hate it. If you know the day will be hot and sunny, pour the vinegar over the weed and it does not stand a chance. I have seen vinegar kill off a stubborn weed in one hot day. The left over juice in a pickle jar works well too.
If you have an area that you are trying to clear of ANY growth, then salt may just do the trick. If you have left over rock salt at the end of winter, try spreading it over a pathway to ensure no weeds grow there. Be careful though as salt is not selective on what plants it kills.
3) Pulling them
As a last resort you may need to get on your knees and get your hands dirty. The least fun, the most labour intensive, but the most effective as well. There are tools that make this job a little easier, but make sure you get all of the root otherwise they will return stronger than before!
By using these four household, common items you can easily get rid of the weeds in your backyard. It just takes a little effort and know how.
